CARY -
Green Hope held off a pesky Enloe team to defeat the Eagles 4-2 and set up a rematch with defending NCHSAA 4-A soccer champion Jordan. The Falcons (20-1) had to rally from 2-1 down in the second half Saturday before a nervous Green Hope crowd. But junior midfielder Kellen Foster tied the match with his second goal - a header that appeared to bounce off an Enloe player and into the net with 24 minutes and 15 seconds left.
Senior Tyler Carroll gave the Falcons the lead with a flip kick back into the net with less than 15 minutes remaining. Less than ten minutes later, Rodrigo Ortiz made it 4-2."They got one of the best players in the state, so we knew it was a big test for us," Green Hope coach Andrew Chadwick said of Enloe's Mike Paye.
"Luis Downhum is also dangerous, so we knew we had our work cut out for us," said Chadwick.
Foster put the Falcons up 1-0 late in the first half with an unassisted kick. After carrying the lead in the second period, Enloe struck quickly with back-to-back goals by Downhum to take a 2-1 lead before Green Hope's rally.
Jordan lost to the Falcons 5-0 in the first game of the season, ending its unbeaten win streak from last season.
Foster said he recalls two years ago, when Jordan won the regular season matchup between the two but Green Hope won the playoff game. The teams have met in the third round the past three seasons."We know they want to win Tuesday and get us back," he said. "It's going to be a big game for both of us, and we have to be ready."
