For Veterans Day, ceremonies to honor the nation's military veterans will be held throughout Southwest Wake County on Friday, Nov. 11.
The Kraft Family YMCA in Holly Springs will hold a Veterans Day ceremony 10:30-11:11 a.m. The guest speaker will be Marine Corps. Major Dwayne Lancaster. Other guests include: Pam Saulsby, USMC Color Guard, Tom Newman, Ken Hanson, David Johnson, Dick Fisher, Jack Clevesy and Richard Warren. The Armed Forces Spouse of the Year, Bianca Strzalkowski, will also attend.
A flag-raising ceremony to honor veterans will be at 10:50 a.m. at the Cary Family YMCA.
A retirement ceremony for unserviceable U.S. flags will be held at 1 p.m. at Franklin-Sloan Post 7383 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 522 Reedy Creek Road, Cary. Old, unserviceable flags may be dropped off at Post 7383 on any afternoon before the ceremony for proper disposal by incineration. For details, call 919-467-7231 or email

Also in Raleigh, the annual Veterans Day parade and ceremony will be at 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of Fayetteville and Davie streets. A ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on the north side of the Capitol grounds. There will be music and static displays.
