The Town of Cary is responsible for the absolute fiasco that was the so-called Sane 'N' Safe Halloween (at Cary Towne Center Mall on Oct. 31).

They invited the public to partake in Halloween festivities, but if you arrived (like we did) 30 minutes after the event began, you were greeted with one sign after another saying, "No candy," or "We are not participating in today's event."

I spoke to several vendors who said they simply didn't have more than $25 in their budget for the event.

What a missed opportunity by each and every one.

The rainy weather may have unexpectedly increased the size of the crowd, but what better way to capture all that foot traffic.

(It was) a perfect opportunity to keep old friends and make new ones of the parents in attendance.
