Cary (7-2) at Athens Drive (5-5)In the season's final week, all of the attention shifts to playoff scenarios. Cary (5-2 Tri-Nine) can lock up third place in the Tri-Nine, and one of the higher playoff seeds, with a win at Athens Drive. However, the Imps could also finish fifth with a loss, which would open the door for Panther Creek to leapfrog Cary in the standings, and give Athens a head-to-head tiebreaker. Athens (4-3 Tri-Nine) is hopeful for a playoff berth, but can't be too sure after being left out last year with a 5-6 overall record.
Last 10 meetings: Cary leads 6-4
Panther Creek (7-3) at Green Hope (2-8)The Catamounts (5-2 Tri-Nine) are assuredly in the playoffs for their third straight season but would like to increase the chances of a home game with a win against Green Hope (0-7 Tri-Nine) and a corresponding loss by Cary. Although a 3-seed isn't likely to host a playoff game, the Catamounts know the value of playing at home, where they've lost just once in the last two seasons. The Falcons are looking to snap a 35-game conference losing streak.
All-time series: Panther Creek leads 3-1
Middle Creek (7-3) at Apex (1-6-1)The scenario for Middle Creek is pretty simple: Win and get a No. 1 seed. The Mustangs (6-1 Tri-Nine) own the head-to-head tiebreaker with Fuquay-Varina (7-1 Tri-Nine) should the two finish tied for first. A 1-seed guarantees a home playoff game, and in most cases means the first two postseason games are at home. An upset by Apex (1-6 Tri-Nine) would be crippling to the Mustangs, as they could fall to a possible three-way tie for second. Three-way ties are broken by a random draw, so it's something every team wants to avoid.
All-time series: Middle Creek leads 7-1
Lee County (3-6) at Holly Springs (2-7)Lee County (2-5 Tri-Nine) needs to win this game to have a shot at the playoffs. Holly Springs (2-5 Tri-Nine) is all but out of the state playoff picture. Even if a 3-7 team makes it into the playoffs, the Yellow Jackets and Golden Hawks are unlikely candidates because of their sub-.500 conference records.
All-time series: Tied 1-1
Jason West Athens Drive QB, JuniorThe Jaguars' starting quarterback posted the first 200-100 game of his career against Lee County. West ran for 113 yards and threw for 237 as Athens Drive won 29-21. West, who had just 10 carries in the game, scored two touchdowns by ground from 39 and 28 yards out. He also passed for an additional two touchdowns and completed 20 of his 25 throws with no interceptions.
Ryan Habich Fuquay-Varina head coachOn clinching at least a share of the conference title: "For this group to win two straight conference championships says a lot about the hard work they've put in. After the way we lost to start the conference season, not a lot of people thought this group was going to be able to win the title this year - or even tie for it. I'm proud of this group."
