The Cary Diwali festival will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Koka Booth Amphitheatre.
The theme for this year's Cary Diwali, "Sanskriti - Culture Transcending Borders," focuses on the Indian cultural traditions and values that have transcended geographic and ideological boundaries to enrich other cultures.
The influence of Indian culture, tradition and values will be highlighted through the presentation of artistic expressions of music and dance by local children, dance schools, ethnic handicrafts, clothing and jewelry bazaars, exhibitions as well as food from various parts of India.
The grand finale will feature the Mayuri-Indian Dance Ensemble, based out of Petrozavodsk, Russia. Led by Evgrafova Vera Ivanovna, this group of 18 performers will showcase India's dance traditions through four dance styles: Bharata Natyam, Kathak, folk dances and dances on Bollywood music. Fireworks will close the evening.
