APEX - Middle Creek is one of those football teams with enough bodies that the Mustangs stretch along the sidelines from one 35- to other 35-yard line while watching their teammates.
And the Mustangs are also one of those teams with enough talent that Middle Creek coach Sean Crocker could empty his bench early as the Mustangs rolled to a 36-0 win over Green Hope Friday night on Middle Creek's homecoming game.
"Everybody busts their tails in practice and everybody deserves to play, said Middle Creek quarterback David Salmon. (The scout team) gives us a good look during the week in practice. They show up every day like everybody else does.
"We're a team here, and every single one of us deserves to be on field. We put in the time in the summer and during the year. It's a good feeling to know everybody contributed.
Middle Creek improved to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the Tri-Nine Conference, while Green Hope dropped to 2-6 and 0-5.
In all, 11 Mustangs carried the ball, six caught passes and five different playes scored touchdowns.
Salmon, a junior, only played the first half before Middle Creek head coach Sean Crocker had senior Sal Salvarese start the second half and finish the game.
"Anytime we can get guys on the field that work hard, it's always good, Crocker said. It was a chance to give them good competition without them just waiting for the clock to run down.
Salmon finished 4-of-7 for 26 yards with a 15-yard touchdown pass on a nicely placed ball for an over-the-shoulder catch by Jon Moore for a 6-0 lead. The score finished a five-play, 52-yard drive on Middle Creek's first possession, with the big play a 26-yard run by Devone Johnson.
The Mustangs added their second TD on a 5-yard run by Corey Wright on the final play of the first quarter for a 13-0 lead. His score finished a seven-play, 60-yard drive that was aided by a 15-yard roughing-the-punter penalty.
Middle Creek bumped its lead to 19-0 with 2:14 left in the half when Quinton Ray scored on an 11-yard run to cap an 11-play, 52-yard drive.
Middle Creek scored its last two touchdowns of the first half within the final 31 seconds.
Kevin Jones returned a punt 56 yards for a touchdown with 31 seconds to play. Jones fielded the ball in the middle of the field and received a big block from Cameron White that allowed him to cut to the right sideline and race the rest of the way untouched.
On the ensuing kickoff, Green Hope fumbled and Dajuan Young picked up the loose ball at the 18-yard line and returned it for a touchdown with 20 seconds to play.
Middle's Creek's final score was a 24-yard field goal by Chris Hui with 9:21 left in the game.
Green Hope, which has been plagued by injuries in a year the Falcons have used six quarterbacks, started sophomore John Nassif at quarterback this time. He was replacing injured sophomore Chris Tutweiler.
"Green Hope is struggling, but their guys played hard, Crocker said.
