Cary authorities locked down Cary High School for an hour on Wednesday, Oct. 5, after a man attempted to rob a patron of a local bank, according to the town.

Police are seeking a man who entered an occupied vehicle just outside the bank and demanded money from a woman inside.

"He asked for money, she told him no, and he proceeded to exit the vehicle and leave the scene on foot," said Carrie Roman, a town spokeswoman.

The incident occurred just after noon outside the BB&T Bank at 848 SE Maynard Road. Police believe the suspect, who is at large, is a white male, aged between 35 and 42, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, with short brown hair. He was wearing a dark zippered jacket with dark pants during the robbery.

Authorities temporarily shut down Cary High School because it stands less than a half-mile from the bank.
