Green Hope's girls cross country team has won the last two state championships and won eight of the last nine conference titles. So when two of its team members do something no other Falcons history, it stands out even more.
At WakeMed Park's Great American Cross Country Festival on Saturday, seniors Erica Amatori (17:58) and Lauren Colberg (17:59) became the first two girls runners in Green Hope history to break the 18-minute mark.
The two were among the top three N.C. high school girls to compete in the event's multiple races.
Also placing well were fellow Falcons teammates Jessi Rossabi (18:35), Theresa Enright (19:03) and Allie Worsdale (19:07).
Athens Drive's Brianne Boldrin was the next-best finisher from the southwest Wake area, finishing with a 19:30.
In the boys races, Cary's Bakri Abushouk (16:01, 44th) lead all area runners.
Graham wins again: Cary Academy's Thomas Graham took first at the Hagan Stone XC Classic, held Saturday in Pleasant Garden, N.C.
Graham's time of 15:26 was 35 seconds ahead of the next-closest runner.
The Chargers, who are without Colin Godwin due to injury, finished sixth in the 18-team field.
