Two Fuquay-Varina Athletic Association travel teams won their respective age divisions in baseball at the Top Gun Invitational in Rocky Mount on Sept. 18.
The
9U and 8U Predators were awarded championship trophies. Both teams played 18 innings of exceptional baseball and allowed very few runs to score.
Kathleen Dougherty, a junior at Cardinal Gibbons High School, was one of 76 students to participate in the Pennsylvania School for Global Entrepreneurship (PSGE) at Lehigh University over the summer.
Dougherty was able to live and study with 28 international students and 48 U.S. students.
The PSGE students are part of a five-week journey that focuses on entrepreneurship, finance, ethics, project management, cross-cultural communications, team building, negotiation and developing a business plan. Students participate in group seminars and workshops, visit businesses throughout the area, create networks with international students, entrepreneurs and business leaders, and work on a project with a successful entrepreneurial company.
The N.C. Turnpike Authority will hold the
Triangle Expressway Trot, a 5K run/walk and Family Fun Day from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 20 near the intersection of Hopson Road and Davis Drive on the Triangle Expressway.
A shotgun start for the 5K will be at 2 p.m. Early registration is $20. After Oct. 20, the registration fee will be $30. A kid's 100-yard dash is at 3 p.m. No registration fee is required.
There will also be music, mascots, activities for children and exhibition vehicles. Parking will be available at the Keystone lot at 430 Davis Drive.
