Music fans of all ages put on their rain gear Saturday and headed to downtown Apex for the first Apex Jazz Festival.

Free events included a farmers market, fashion show and musicians performing on an outdoor stage.

The event lasted throughout the night, with more than a dozen groups performing at restaurants along Salem Street and at the Halle Cultural Arts Center. More than 1,500 people attended.

"Lots of people were having a great time," said Blaine East, with the Apex Downtown Business Association, the event's primary sponsor. At top right, Diana and Dylan Locki of Cary, dressed for inclement weather, enjoy the free music. Bill and Jean Travers, below right, of Apex, watch live music at the Outdoor Stage. "We're out supporting local merchants and just enjoying the day," said Jean Travers.
