Geomagic has found a bigger home.

The technology company, which had outgrown its headquarters in Research Triangle Park, was desperate for more space as its business and workforce expanded.

Geomagic makes software that helps a rapidly increasing base of customers, such as Harley-Davidson and NASA, create 3-D digital models.

By Monday, the company expects to relocate to about 32,200 square feet of subleased space on Davis Drive in Morrisville.

Some renovation work at the new space will continue through October as the company adds amenities such as employee relaxation areas.

There also will be more space to showcase the company's 3-D imaging and printing technology, as well as examples of how customers are using the products.

"It will help create a new level of energy and creative activity," Fu said.

Geomagic's growth reinforces the strength of the Triangle's tech industry, despite the economic slump that's spurring layoffs in other sectors. Companies such as iContact in Morrisville, Red Hat in Raleigh and SciQuest in Cary continue to hire - and to take more office space.

Geomagic has become one of the better-recognized tech names in the Triangle, partly because Fu is something of a corporate celebrity. She has gained fame for high-profile appearances that include promoting the interests of small businesses with President Barack Obama and demonstrating Geomagic's technology for Jay Leno.

Geomagic has needed more space since it closed several overseas research offices two years ago and moved some jobs back to this country. That meant tight quarters at its previous headquarters, where Geomagic had leased 14,400 square feet.

The company employs about 150 people. If demand stays strong, Fu expects to add at least 45 more during the next year.
