Dorothy Evelyn Dooley died peacefully at home on July 18, 2011, in Chapel Hill, NC. Dorothy was born Dorothy Evelyn Theisinger in the Bronx, NY, on November 5, 1919. She was graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School. She married Lawrence Dooley on November 9th, 1941. During the Second World War and her husband’s deployment she worked for Waterman Steamship Company in New York. A son, Richard Lawrence, was born in 1946. The family moved to Long Island in 1950. A second son, Raymond Edward, was born in 1952. Dorothy worked for Doubleday and Co. in Garden City, NY, for twenty years. In 1978, Dorothy and Lawrence retired to Freehold, NJ, where Lawrence predeceased her in 1988. Dorothy remained in Freehold until 2007 when she moved to Chapel Hill, NC, to be near her sons and their families. She is survived by her sons Richard, of Cary, NC, and Raymond of Chapel Hill, NC; her daughters-in-law Sharon Dooley and Rebecca Bailey; and a granddaughter, Shannon Elizabeth Dooley, of Norristown, PA. A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of the Cross in Chapel Hill, NC, on Wednesday, July 27, at 2:00 PM.
