Eight self-contained communications stations will operate from 2 p.m. Saturday until 2 p.m. Sunday. Set up will begin Friday starting at 2 p.m. and continue Saturday morning. Hams will practice the skills needed to handle emergency communications by setting up self-contained, two-way radio stations "in the field" to communicate for a 24-hour period while entirely off the grid with no commercial power or phone lines.

Hams use generators and batteries, solar and wind power; anything not from the local electric company. Each station will make brief contacts with hundreds of others across the region and across the country.
