After four years together on Middle Creek's girls basketball team, the Murdock twins will spend the next four years together playing for Guilford College.

Casey Murdock, the starting point guard for the Mustangs, averaged 3.9 points this year and ended her career as the school's all-time leader in assists.

Brittany Murdock, the starting shooting guard, averaged 6.1 points this year and ended her career as Middle Creek's all-time leader in 3-pointers.

The two broke those records in back-to-back days last season.

Middle Creek went 18-9 this season and notched the first playoff win in school history. The pair become the third and fourth Middle Creek girls players to sign with a college in the past two seasons, joining Kristine Rishel (2010, Winthrop) and senior Amber Battle (Richmond).

Weiss now playing Division I: When Apex boys lacrosse goalie Emil Weiss, the 2010 N&O boys lacrosse player of the year, decided last month that he wanted to go to Michigan for college, the decision wasn't based on any amount of scholarship he received.

Because at the time, Michigan didn't have a men's lacrosse program. Weiss planned on playing for Michigan's prestigious club team instead.

But the university announced last week that its club team would become one of its varsity programs.

Weiss is one of 10 recruits who will help launch it. The Wolverines will field an NCAA Division I team next year for the first time and Weiss, a two-time all-state selection, is expected to be in goal.

Weiss was a two-time all-state selection. He helped the Cougars to three state semifinals and two state championship games during his career.

Spring soccer signees: A number of high school soccer players signed their national letters-of-intent in February, during the winter signing period. But some just recently signed.

In girls soccer, Sarah Russo of Cardinal Gibbons will play for Coastal Carolina.

On the boys side, Mike Wisniewski of Green Hope has signed with Campbell.

Several more of the boys signees all played for the Fuquay-Varina Athletic Association this past year, including: Holly Springs' Ryan Gillespie (Lees-McRae), Fuquay-Varina's T.C. Stephens (Lees-McRae), Jonathon Furr (Limestone College) and Jonathan Rembecki (Barton College) as well as Panther Creek's Kyle Lavender (Mount Olive).

Four sign from Green Hope: Green Hope volleyball player Morgan Morrissette is one of four senior athletes who recently decided where they will be competing in college.

Morrissette, who was a captain on this year's 17-4 Falcons volleyball team, will play at Mount Olive next year. She will major in graphic design.

Track and field athlete Monica Green, the Tri-Nine Conference individual champ in the 400-meter, will run for St. Augustine's College in Raleigh. Her Falcons teammate Jessica McEnaney is heading to Lees-McRae.

Green Hope girls golfer Nicole Keyser will play for Flagler (Fla.) University next year. She was the Falcons' top player this year, averaging 38.6 strokes per conference match.

She also had the lowest 18-hole round (82) of any Green Hope player at the 4-A Mideast regional, where the Falcons finished runner-up.
