ATHENS DRIVE HIGH SCHOOL

APEX HIGH SCHOOL

The 40th Apex High School reunion will be May 14 at Montague Lake, 10301 Penny Road, Raleigh. The classes of 1972 and 1973 are invited. The event starts at 3 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m.

It includes dinner, music and mingling. Big John of 102.9's Beach Party show will be the DJ. The cost is $30 per person. Make checks payable to Sherry Dean and send to 106 Court Garden Way, Cary. (Please write your name and your spouse's name, if applicable, on the check so we can have name tags ready for pickup.) Register and pay by April 15.

GRACE CHRISTIAN

In the ACSI music festival held March 11, "superior" ratings were achieved by the high school vocal ensemble, middle school chorus, high school band, the trumpet duet of Shannon Still and Mary Preston Austin, and the vocal duet of Rachel Humphreys and Kim Scro. The middle school band received a rating of "excellent."

In the 2011 GFWC-NC District VI Arts Festival on February 19, the following awards were won: Emily Otto, third place, colored pencil; Jamison Cochran, third place, middle school pencil drawing; Lacy McVey, second place middle school acrylic painting; Skyler Dascombe, second place, fabric dying; and Dillon Hooks, first place fabric dying.

In the ACSI Art Festival, in elementary art, nine students received a rating of "good," 17 students received an "excellent," and 13 students received a "superior" rating. From middle and high school art, seven students received "good," 13 received "excellent" and 17 rated "superior." Alex Phillips received a "Best in Show" award.

REEDY CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL

STEEL CHALLENGE

Students ages 12 through 18 can apply for Nucor Corporation's "Strength of Steel Challenge." The challenge ends May 3, 2011. The winning team will receive the Nucor Future Engineers Champion Award and a $3,000 prize. For information, visit strengthofsteelchallenge.com.
