Bayer greenhouse to employ 25Bayer CropScience plans to build a $20 million greenhouse that will employ 25 people in Research Triangle Park.
The greenhouse will support the recently completed Bio Science Innovation Center in Morrisville, which conducts research-and-development related to seeds. The greenhouse's work will involve improving crop yields, stress tolerance and overall plant quality.
Bayer CropScience, a subsidiary of German conglomerate Bayer, produces insecticides and other crop protection products. The company has 550 workers in the Triangle spread out among its North American headquarters in RTP plus Morrisville and Clayton.
Construction of a 60,000-square-foot building that will house the greenhouse will be completed by the first quarter of next year.
The 25 workers are part of the 128 jobs that the agribusiness company said it would create in five years when it announced plans in 2009 for the Bio Science Innovation Center in Morrisville. The company is in line to receive up to $2.3 million in incentives for creating those jobs.
