Apex's run to the NCHSAA title game was the bright spot in area boys lacrosse from last year. The Cougars figure to be tough again.

Apex (15-4): Emil Weiss, a senior goaltender, was the N&O boys lacrosse player of the year in 2010 and an All-American selection. He is among 12 returning starters.

Seniors Curtis Holmes, Clint Miller and Michael Pittelli (35 goals) were all-conference, as was sophomore Luke Sieber (19 goals, 14 assists).

Coach John Hayden will have to find a way to replace Ross Whitehead, whose return from injury sparked the late-season run.

Cary Academy (9-8): Josh Landry, a senior, set a school record with 33 assists in 2010 and scored 49 goals. Ben Sawchak returns in goal for the Chargers, who reached the NCISAA's second round.

Middle Creek (8-8): James Hughes scored 40 goals and recorded 13 assists in 2010.

Cardinal Gibbons (19-1): Andrew Bass, a senior defenseman, and Connor Prevost, a junior midfielder, were honorable mention All-State. Alex Zajdel and Cullen Raymond have committed to Queens University.

Holly Springs (15-3): Devon Lepsch, a senior midfielder, helped lead Holly Springs to a 15-3 record in 2010. He has committed to Loyola (Md.). Alex Dantzler leads the attack.

Green Hope (11-5): Kevin Collins and Will Nassif return from last year's team.
