FUQUAY-VARINA - Fuquay standoff ends peacefully

A 43-year-old Wake County man was jailed after an overnight standoff with authorities at his mobile home near Fuquay-Varina. No one was injured.

Wake County sheriff's deputies responded to a call of possible shots fired at 2820 Green Clover Drive about 11 p.m. Sunday, according to Phyllis Stephens, a sheriff's office spokeswoman.

Stephens said deputies were concerned for the safety of individuals inside the home because of a history of domestic violence calls at that address.

Just after 4 a.m., authorities released tear gas into the home and Bryant Wade Mims surrendered.

He was alone inside the mobile home.

Mims is charged with possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest, Stephens said.

Cary investigates seven fires

Cary police and fire officials responded to seven small grass fires throughout the town Saturday.

The fires were spread throughout Cary, including Dunham Park, behind Buffaloe Lanes on High House Road, and in the medians of divided roads, according to Keith Adams of the Cary police.

Police suspect that the fires were set with matches by teenagers who were driving around town, Adams said.

No accelerant was used. But an ongoing drought has led to dry conditions throughout the area.

Nobody was injured.

"We don't have any suspects," Adams said. "They had to be in cars since some of the fires were pretty far apart."

Police identify fatal in wreck

Authorities identified a 22-year-old man who died last week when his motorcycle collided with a sports utility vehicle in Morrisville.

Jorge Arango was killed Saturday on the Morrisville Parkway, town spokeswoman Stacie Galloway reported Monday.

Arango was riding his motorcycle when it crashed into a Ford Explorer driven by Vincent Colucci, 55, said Galloway in statement.

The police are still investigating and have not yet released details about the circumstances of the accident.

No charges have been filed.

The police are awaiting an autopsy report from the state medical examiner's office.

Once the report is completed the police will turn it over to the Wake County District Attorney's Office, who will then decide the charges, Galloway reported.
