The Cary wrestling team may have seen many of its dual-team streaks come to an end this season, but the Imps are still formidable in tournament formats.

The Imps, which also won the Tri-Nine tournament, locked up their 19th straight regional tournament title Saturday at Lee County High School.

Cary had 136.5 points en route to winning the 4-A Mideast regional tournament, where teams from the Tri-Nine, Cap-8 and PAC-6 conferences competed.

The state tournaments are this Friday and Saturday in the Greensboro Coliseum.

Out of the Tri-Nine Conference, Green Hope's John Sparks (119 pounds), Cary's Boomer Boyd (125), Panther Creek's Joe Morrison (130), Apex's Dan Mitchell (135), Cary's Hunter Hobson (171) and Athens Drive's Myles Quimby (215) all won regional titles.

Panther Creek (113.5 points) finished third and Holly Springs (105) fourth in the regional tournament.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class qualified for the state tournament.

Cary had the most qualifiers from any Tri-Nine team with seven wrestlers: Boyd, Hobson, Ryan Foran (fourth, 112 pounds), Jacob Brotzman (third, 130), Ben Creed (second, 135), Bo Mulligan (second, 152) and Josh Stewart (fourth, 215).

Panther Creek's Nathan Allison (third, 112), Ben Elliott (second, 125) and David Grissom (third, 160) qualified for the Catamounds. For Holly Springs, Jeff Cramer (third, 145), Jacob Baum (third, 189) and Chris Sauls (second, heavyweight) all qualified.

Middle Creek's Alex Bataglia (fourth, 119) is the only Mustangs wrestler who advanced to the state tournament.

Green Hope's Sam Baird (second, 145), Brian Hinckley (third, 152) and Ian Callahan (third, 171) all qualified as did Athens Drive's Ashton Rogers (fourth, 160).
