CARY ACADEMY

Joshua Henderson attended Interlochen Arts Camp, a summer program for aspiring artists grades 3-12. Henderson studied violin performance, orchestra and chamber music at the camp. He was selected from 80 violinists from around the world in grades 6-9 to be concertmaster for the final performance of the symphony orchestra.

At the 71st session of Tar Heels Girls' State, held at Catawba College in June, Katelyn Mitchell was elected attorney general. Paul Vandergrift served as a mayor at Tar Heel Boys' State. Both programs are weeklong workshops in the legislative process sponsored by the N.C. American Legion Auxiliary.

EAST CARY MIDDLE

Students donated more than 600 school supplies to the Helping Hands Mission located on Hillsborough Street on Aug. 13. Students collected school supplies during July as part of a community service project sponsored by the Future Business Leaders of America student organization.

Homerooms competed against one another. One seventh-grade homeroom brought in more than 200 pieces. It's the second year East Cary Middle School has participated in the project. The total collected this year was more than twice what was collected last year.
