DURHAM - Last season, Panther Creek had trouble winning on the road. This year's squad -- full of talented seniors -- wanted to make their road woes a thing of the past. The Catamounts did just that Friday night, getting 129 total yards and two touchdowns from running back Jonathan Douglas and eventually pulling away late from Durham Jordan 30-14.

"I'm proud of my kids," Panther Creek coach Wayne Bragg said. "Our motto this week was 'Anyplace, Anytime' and if we want to be a good team like the team we want to become then we have to go places and beat teams on the road."

The Catamounts (2-0) had two golden opportunities early as the Falcons (1-1) turned the ball over deep in its own territory on their first two possessions. But Panther Creek, however, failed to capitalized, as the Jordan defense stiffened both times. Panther Creek got to the Jordan 25 yard-line and the Jordan 21 yard-line, only to turn the ball over on downs.

The Falcons finally drew first blood, as Sam Selig found Meshach Chavis on a quick slant, and Chavis outran the Catamounts defense for a 50-yard touchdown and a 7-0 advantage.

Panther Creek, however, quickly answered with a 7-play, 49-yard drive on its ensuing possession, as Kameron Byrant took it in on a quarterback sneak from 1-yard out to even the score and eventually took a 10-7 halftime lead on Garrett Lang's 30-yard field goal late in the second quarter.

"It was really big to answer," Bragg said. "We had those chances early and we stopped ourselves with penalties and bad plays. I told them to settle down and we eventually started running the ball and hit on a couple of big pass plays.

The Catamounts took the opening kickoff of the second half and marched down the field on a 9-play, 49-yard drive that culminated with a touchdown on a third down play where Bryant found Douglas on a 7-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 17-7.

The Falcons looked to get right back into the game when quarterback Joey Mangili found Phil Williamson on a 47-yard catch down to the Panther Creek 2-yard line. But a fumble two plays later ended the drive, and Douglas scored on a 1-yard touchdown three plays later to put the game out of reach.

The Catamounts' defense was stellar all game, forcing five turnovers and recording four sacks.

"A lot of seniors on that unit that's been starting since their sophomore year," Bragg said. "We gave up a big play, but we kept playing and stepped up big."

Durham Jordan played most of the fourth quarter without star T.J. Thorpe, who injured his ankle in the fourth quarter jumping for a ball in the end zone. He was able to limp off the field on his own power.
