Eight more Wake County schools – including several in western Wake – have been added to Newsweek’s 2010 list of the top U.S. public high schools.

Back in June, only four district schools made NewsweekÂ’s list.

But after complaints from Wake, Newsweek recalculated the data and, as of last week, 12 schools were on the list of 1,735 schools.

The new schools added to the list are Panther Creek High at No. 948, Athens Drive High at No. 1192, Cary High at No. 1492, Middle Creek High at No. 1544, Millbrook High at No. 1583, Holly Springs High at No. 1627, Apex High at No. 1668 and Leesville Road High at No. 1730.

Already on the list are Enloe High at No. 128. Broughton High at No. 305, Green Hope High at No. 477 and Wakefield High at No. 1213.

The rankings take the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests taken and divide by the number of graduating seniors.
