Cardinal Gibbons junior Madison Bugg is one of the best girls high school volleyball players in the world.

She will travel the world this summer, logging almost 31,000 miles playing volleyball.

Her summer began with a 2,666-mile trip in early July to Reno, Nev., with her Triangle 18 Black club to play in the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships.

She'll work in the Githens Middle School camp in Durham for a couple of weeks and then attend a camp at the University of Washington in Seattle, which is 2,900 miles away.

Washington is one of the colleges that Bugg has interest in attending, and going to camp is a good way to learn more about the school, she said.

On the way home, Bugg will stay in Wisconsin for 10 days training with the U.S. Youth National Team.

Following the 900-mile flight home, she will have a week off before packing her bags and flying to Singapore, 9,879 miles away, to play for the U.S. in the Singapore Youth Olympic Games on Aug. 9 through 26.

"I'm going to miss preseason practice at school," she said.

The flights will cover 31,000 miles. But Bugg said she is pumped to get started.
