CARY - Man accused of abusing infant

A Cary father is in the Wake County jail this morning after police said he physically abused his six-week-old infant.

Nathan Roy Webb, 27, of 1212 Old Apex Road, was arrested July 21 and charged with one count of intentional child abuse causing serious physical injury, according to an arrest warrant filed with the Wake County Magistrate's Office.

Police said in the warrant that the baby suffered multiple fractures, including a broken leg, between May 15 and June 1. Webb was being held on $500,000 bond.

Cary man charged in chase

The Raleigh Police Department issued new charges against a Cary man who was arrested July 17 after, police say, he stole a car and struck a police cruiser twice while fleeing arrest.

A police report says Malcolm Paris Falconer, 18, of 1115 Nottingham Circle, tried to elude officers as they investigated a possible sexual assault near 1107 Garner Road. Falconer fled down Holmes Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard, police say, earning one count of eluding arrest. Police say he then hit a police vehicle twice.

Two counts of felony hit-and-run now join charges including one count of larceny of a motor vehicle, one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on government officials.

$10,000 to fight New Hill plant

The Southern Coalition for Social Justice won a $10,000 grant that they say may be used to litigate against the placement of a wastewater treatment plant in the unincorporated western Wake community of New Hill.

The grant was awarded by the California-based Impact Fund, which provides support for litigation aimed at creating economic and social justice.

Cary, Apex, Morrisville and Holly Springs are pursuing the regional sewage plant in New Hill to answer a state mandate to return treated water to the Cape Fear River and to accommodate their growing populations. A decision on the placement of that plant is expected this month.

The coalition claims that New Hill residents were not adequately consulted during the planning of the site and that other potential sites would have fewer negative impacts.

Walmart workers face theft charge

Two Walmart employees were arrested and charged with embezzling cash and merchandise.

Twana Nichelle Fairley, 30, of 216 Park St. in Cary and Paris Katrelle Whitehead, 19, of 3000 Moneta Way in Durham each face one count of embezzlement, Wake arrest warrants state.

Both are accused of taking $20,052 in cash and $1,444 in goods from April 28 through May 31 while employees of the Walmart store at 1001 Shiloh Glenn Drive in Morrisville, the warrants state.
