Cary Police in Cary are searching for a suspect in the weekend theft of a tow truck from a local business. According to police, an unknown suspect cut a chain link fence surrounding a storage area for cars at Coltland Towing on Chapel Hill Road. The crime occurred between 3:30 and 4:45 a.m. July 24. It was unclear how the suspect got away with the tow truck. The vehicle's listed value is $40,000.
A former employee of Elite Transmission on Old Apex Road is suspected in the year-old theft of more than $3,000 in hand tools from the business.
Police said the theft occurred in September 2009 but was not reported until July 24. A suspect in the case is described as a male, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot 8-inches tall and about 180 pounds.
Officers said the suspect is believed to have since moved out of state.
Apex A resident of Park Summit Boulevard reported being the victim of identity fraud on June 30. $479 in fraudulent charges was made using their credit card.
Someone entered a commercial building at 1528 E. Williams St. between 1 p.m. July 16 and 7 a.m. July 19. 250 feet of copper wire, a light stand with two lights and a silver storage lock with rubber lining were taken.
Holly Springs Police charged Taylor Townsend McCrea, 17, of 200 Montgomery St., Bunn, with breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny.
It happened about 11:58 p.m. July 19 at 521 Cayman Ave.
Officers on foot in the area witnessed the suspect breaking into the vehicle and caught him as he attempted to flee the scene.
Fuquay-Varina Someone entered a home on Broad Street through a rear door between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. June 22. A shotgun, handgun and two rifles were taken.
Multiple counterfeit checks were cashed at the Walmart at 1051 E. Broad St. between 9:01 p.m. June 8 and 12:20 p.m. June 24.
