RALEIGH - A Cary man died early Saturday after the car he was driving ran off the Beltline and crashed into a guardrail, according to a police report.

Eugene Villanueva Gonzalves, 39, of 215 Park St., was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.

Investigators have not disclosed what caused the accident; drugs, alcohol and speeding were all ruled out as factors.

The single-car crash occurred just before 1 a.m. on Interstate 440 near Western Boulevard.

Gonzalves was driving a 1999 Lexus northbound when he veered left, crossed the centerline and slammed head-on into the guardrail, Officer R.T. Pereira reported.
