By the slimmest of margins, Apex held off Green Hope for the Tri-Nine's Wachovia Conference Cup, awarded to the athletic program with the best overall conference finish in all the NCHSAA-sanctioned sports.

Apex defeated Green Hope by one point, 153.5-152.5 to win its fifth-straight conference cup. The Cougars earned conference titles in girls track, girls soccer and softball to keep the Falcons at bay. Green Hope had titles in boys golf and boys tennis, but lost the first-place lead it had held at the conclusion of the winter sports season.

At the beginning of the year, conference ADs decided to not count girls lacrosse towards the conference cup, since Athens Drive would be competing in a different girls lacrosse conference. While justifiable, it did mean that Green Hope's girls lacrosse conference championship did not factor into the points.

Athens Drive leapfrogged Panther Creek to finish third.
