Cary On March 11 at 4:07 a.m., police responded to a security alarm at GFI Software, 15300 Weston Parkway. An officer arrived at the business to find a man near the glass front door, which had been shattered. The man escaped on foot.
He is described as a male between 30 and 40 years old, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10-inches tall and weighing between 220 to 240 pounds. He has short gray hair and was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, jeans and brown shoes.
Police said an ongoing investigation has revealed that at least two other suspects also were involved in the break-in.
An employee of GFI Software reported that an iMac computer valued at $1,500 had been taken from the business.
Police are investigating a possible sexual offense against a 12-year-old Cary girl.
Investigators released few details but said the girl met the 37-year-old suspect through an online gaming site sometime between Feb. 10 and March 10.
Her parents contacted police after intercepting a telephone message left by the man for their daughter.
A man reported to police on March 11 that he had been the victim of credit card fraud. The 34-year-old victim told officers that he discovered two charges on his credit card totaling $1797.51 when he tried to use the card, which was declined. Both of the fraudulent purchases were made at Best Buy stores in Cary and Raleigh between Feb. 6 and March 11. The victim told police he had maintained possession of his credit card during the period in question.
Fuquay-Varina Two suspects, described as 20-year-old men, attempted to take a man's wallet and shot at him on Conover Street at about 9:41 p.m. Feb. 23.
Someone entered an unsecured vehicle at the Fuquay-Varina Community Center about 8:30 p.m. Feb. 25. An mp3 player and a PlayStation were taken.
A home was entered on E. Vance Street through an unsecured basement door between 8:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. Feb. 25. An iPod and $50 were taken.
A resident of Swan Hill Court reported that someone fraudulently used their credit card to make online purchases at about 2:12 p.m. Feb. 26.
Someone entered a home on Honeywell Way by prying open a door between 10:30 a.m. Feb. 24 and 2:58 p.m. Feb. 26. Two televisions, a Blu-ray surround system, an Xbox 360 video game system and two speakers were taken.
Police charged Christopher Lee Smith, 36, of 222 Ballentine St., with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault on a female and communicating threats at 109 Raleigh St. at about 5:45 p.m. Feb. 28. He is accused of communicating bodily harm and threatening a woman with a knife at about 8 p.m. Feb. 27 and 12:13 p.m. Feb. 28.
An unsecured vehicle was entered on Lawson Cypress Lane between 10 p.m. March 1 and 9:17 a.m. March 2. A portable DVD player was taken.
Someone stole a white 1999 Ford Ranger with the license plate YXF1906 from a home on East Vance Street between 11 a.m. Feb. 18 and 3:30 p.m. Feb. 20.
Police charged Terrell Rashann Brown, 21, of 140 Landmark Drive, Angier, with possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver at 1:09 a.m. Feb. 22 at Sunset Drive and Whitewater Drive. Officers seized 26.6 grams of marijuana, $50 cash and a scale from the suspect's vehicle after a routine traffic stop.
Someone broke the window at On Point Fashion at 103 W. Academy St. between 2:30 a.m. and 2:33 a.m. Feb. 22. Miscellaneous clothing items were taken.
Holly Springs Sunset Lube and Tire at 100 Matthews Drive was forcibly entered through a side door between 5:21 p.m. and 5:27 p.m. on Feb. 21. Among the items taken were a cash drawer, $140 cash and a point-of-sale machine.
