It all started with a Post-it note and black marker. A few simple lines and the vibrant colored square were transformed into a little critter. Soon, hundreds of Post-it note critters filled the walls at the studio of Ian Sands.

Sands wasn't satisfied with 2-inch squares. He created 2-foot by 2-foot squares out of foam board to emulate giant Post-it notes. Have you ever seen a six-foot Post-it-note alligator?

Sands will display work at the Holly Springs Cultural Center until March 31. Sands will be there from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, for a free Art After Dark artist's reception. The center is at 300 W. Ballentine St.
