You might think, when you drive through the farms and subdivisions west of Cary and Apex, that all roads lead to Green Level - because at least three roads have some variation of "Green Level" in their names.

Roads in that part of western Wake change their names frequently, but only slightly. Now, with the support of Cary officials, the Wake County commissioners have taken a step to reduce the confusion.

Effective March 1, Green Level to Durham Road will lose its identity to become part of Green Level Church Road. And a section of Alston Avenue will take the same name.

As a result, Green Level Church Road will extend nine miles north from U.S. 64 - crossing Green Level Road West, passing its namesake Baptist church, crossing O'Kelly Chapel Road, and ending at N.C. 55 just north of the Durham County line.

Public safety and emergency services officials pushed for the change in names to make it easier for fire departments and other agencies to find the right address quickly.

The change will create new street addresses for 86 homes and businesses in Cary and rural WakeCounty.
