Athens' Crisp accepts invite to All-American BowlAthens Drive offensive lineman Rob Crisp, ranked the No. 3 offensive tackle in the nation by
Rivals.com, officially accepted an invitation to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Crisp, a 6-foot-8 senior weighing 315 pounds, accepted the invite on Friday to play in the event held annually in San Antonio.
Ninety players nationwide are selected for the event, which is broadcast on NBC.
Crisp has committed to N.C. State University for next season after holding offers from more than 30 teams.
Panther Creek continues streakDuring the weekend, Panther Creek went a perfect 5-0 this weekend after wrestling at Cougar Classic at Apex High School.
The Catamounts defeated Apex 45-30, Holly Springs 57-21, Cardinal Gibbons 60-21, Broughton 67-12. The team also beat Southern Durham 69-6.
Athens wrestling wins meetThe Athens Drive wrestling squad won all four meets at a quad meet at Southern Nash High School on Saturday.
The Jaguars took down Southern Vance 60-24, Southern Nash 44-30, Franklinton 49-27 and Hertford County 57-18.
Athens wrestled at Chapel Hill High on Tuesday for another dual meet for squaring off with Middle Creek tonight in the teams' second conference match.
Wrestlers commit to collegesTwo of the Tri-Nine Conference's top wrestlers have decided where they will wrestle next year.
Cary's Matt Colvard, the defending North Carolina 4-A state champion at 160-pounds, has verbally committed to wrestle at Lock Haven (Penn.) University next year.
Colvard is a senior team captain with a three-year record of 148-23 with 100 falls.
Last year, Colvard went 58-2 and placed seventh at the 2009 Junior Nationals NHSCA Championships.
That was good enough for All-American distinction.
Green Hope senior Joey Baird signed a letter-of-intent to wrestle at Newberry College in South Carolina next season.
Baird, a senior, was the state-runner up in the 140-pound class last year. Newberry was the NCAA Division II runner-up last season.
Edwards commits to ShippensburgJill Edwards became the first player in Panther Creek volleyball history to sign a letter of intent to play volleyball in college.
Edwards led the Catamounts to a third-place finish this year in the Tri-Nine Conference.
She signed her letter for Division II Shippensburg (Pa.) University on Nov. 17.
MOR to Offer Winter Swim LeagueThe Marlins Of Raleigh Swim Team will offer its winter swim league for swimmers ages 6-13 from Jan. 11 to March 24.
There are two locations -- St. Mary's School on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh and Millbrook pool in North Raleigh.
Classes are offered twice a week for 11 weeks.
The cost for the classes and T-shirt is $185.
This program has had a waiting list in the past.
Participants are encouraged to sign up early.
