CARY - Incumbent Jennifer Robinson outraised and outspent her chief rival, Lori Bush, in the final weeks of the hard-fought race to represent District A, according to campaign finance reports.
Robinson, who prevailed in last week's runoff election against Bush, received $13,365 in contributions from individuals and other political committees between Sept. 22 and Oct. 19. She spent $12,418 during the same period.
For the entire election season, which runs from July through early November, Bush received a total of $19,022 in contributions and spent $16,000. Bush ended the period with a cash balance of $3,022.
Robinson raised a total of $21,798 and spent $20,649. She reported $5,261 in cash on hand as of Oct. 19.
There are still some expenses and contributions to be reported by both sides. The next deadline for filing, in January, will cover the days before the Nov. 3 runoff.
"The campaign ends, but the work of reconciling expenses goes on," Robinson said.
A Holly Springs developer who contributed $300 was among Robinson's biggest individual supporters in the last leg of the race.
Robinson also received a number of contributions from members of the business community, including owners of Carpenter Farm Supply and Lynn's & Daphne's Hallmark.
The N.C. Realtors political action committee contributed $2,500 to Robinson's campaign.
Bush raised $5,281 between Sept. 22 and Oct. 19. She spent $7,184 during that period.
In addition to her husband, Bush's campaign was backed by the chief operating officer of ServerEngines, who contributed $1,000. Bush reported that she did not receive contributions from committees affiliated with other political campaigns or organizations.
"We used our money judiciously and we planned ahead," Bush said.
