The Cary Christian girls cross country team captured the 2009 NCISAA 1-A/2-A championship on Saturday in Pleasant Garden, N.C.
The Lady Knights finished with a total of 80 points, 30 more than the next-highest team. Cary Christian was paced by two all-state runners in Aundrea Holmes and Tiffany Hagan.
Holmes finished fourth overall with a time of 20:07 and Hagan was eighth after running a 20:25.
Caroline Stogner (16th, 21:04), Mariah Bunton (20th, 21:24) and Laurie Van Deventer (32nd, 22:14) all counted towards the team's point total. Ashley Bolick (68th, 24:04) and Maggie Miller (107th, 25:52) also helped Cary Christian to the state title.
“I am extremely proud of their hard work, commitment to their season goal and drive to accomplish their season goal,” coach Cathy Duncan said.
Mintz finishes secondThe Cary Christian boys cross country team, which won the 1-A/2-A championship in 2008, came in fifth overall in this year's state meet.
The Knights' Bobby Mintz, who won the state meet last year as a sophomore, took second overall with a 15:41.
Daniel Jezioranski (22nd, 17:57), Gabe Johnson (24th, 18:06), Bobby Duncan (33rd, 18:32) and Parker Knox (85th, 19:45) all had times counting toward the team total.
