Joseph Richard Ewers, 80, formerly of Indianapolis, IN., died in Cincinnati, Ohio Oct. 14. He was born in Findlay, Ohio Oct. 19, 1928 to Esther Browneller and C. Ellsworth Ewers. Dr. Ewers received his BS and Masters degrees from Bowling Green State University of Ohio. He earned his Doctorate in Business from Indiana University in 1959 where he then stayed to teach Business Economics and Public Policy.

In 1962, the last 6 months of Herman B Wells Presidency at IU, he was asked to be Dr. Wells administrative assistant. He stayed on to serve as the assistant to incoming Elvis J. Stahr. In 1965 he served for a short term as the Director for the Professional Golf Association (PGA). He became President of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis, retiring in 1978. He ended his career teaching at the University of Texas in Austin and consulting for the Texas Savings and Loan. He is survived by his three children, sons, Scott J. (Deborah) of Hercules, CA and Dirk S (Ganhan) of Indianapolis and a daughter Shawn Bourke (Walter) of Indianapolis; he leaves six grandchildren.
