Since 1942 the Apex Lions Club has helped fairgoers make what to eat at the North Carolina State Fair an easy decision. At the Apex Lions Booth you can’t beat that good old “Feel Good All Over Food” served by friendly local folks. Some of the workers have been behind the counter for more than 20 years. Many fairgoers have made the Apex Booth a must stop at the fair for just as long.

You need a good breakfast to get you started for a full day of fun. How does a full breakfast of eggs, grits, ham or sausage, and those famous large homemade buttermilk biscuits, all washed down with fresh coffee or juice sound? Yes, that is right, large homemade buttermilk biscuits. The Apex Lions is one of the last food concessions (if not the only one) still serving homemade biscuits, not store bought. They are made daily by the renowned Biscuit Ladies. After walking off breakfast it is time to refuel. The Apex Booth helps the refueling with footlong hotdogs with all the trimmings, North Carolina barbecue sandwiches or plates, hamburgers, cheeseburgers and French fries. New this year is cheese nachos with jalapenos. Also there is vegetable soup made from a recipe passed down through the years. If you still have room there is a large selection of pies.

What makes this food special “Feel Good All Over Food” is that not only does it make your body feel good, but also knowing that by eating at the booth you have helped others. All profits from the booth are used to support the many charities helped by the Apex Lions. This includes Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, Apex Police Youth Patrol, scholarships for deserving Apex students and the Apex High Booster Club. Help is provided to the Western Wake Crisis Ministry, YMCA and other deserving groups. With helping the visually impaired and deaf as one of the major focuses of Lions, profits go to provide eye and ear exams, glasses, hearing aids, Braille equipment, a camp for the visually impaired and other things needed by the blind or deaf. The visually impaired who visit the booth are provided a hotdog, fries and drink courtesy of the Apex Lions. Military, law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS in uniform along with senior citizens receive a discount.

Now doesn’t that make you feel good all over? And aren’t you glad you decided to stop at the Apex Lions Booth? The booth is located in back of Dorton Arena across from the Information Booth. Just follow the Cajun voice announcing “Good Food for a Good Cause — Cause you’re Hungry.”
