More pro soccer is coming to Cary.

Freddy Adu and D.C. United of Major League Soccer return to SAS Soccer Park June 14 to take on the Charleston Battery of the United Soccer League’s First Division for the Cary Cup.

Teenage phenom Adu and D.C. United came to Cary last year to face the Rochester Raging Rhinos. D.C. United won that game 3-2 to take the inaugural Cary Cup.

Interest in the game from fans — and owners of the Rhinos — was a major factor in the USL planting a First Division franchise at SAS Soccer Park.

“Any chance we have to have the MLS play the USL is a great opportunity,” said Brad Myers, director of business development for Triangle Professional Soccer, which will start play next spring.

Not only will the game bring the two leagues together, but it will also expose local fans to another USL team, Myers said.

The Rhinos played here last summer and also trained in Cary this spring. The training camp ended with a game against USL First Division rivals the Atlanta Silverbacks.
