State Games Set To Open
For the second year, Cary hosts the largest amateur sports competition in the state -- the State Games of North Carolina.The multisport, Olympic-style competitions highlight the accomplishments of competitors of all ages and skill levels.Most of the games take place June 2-25 at several venues in Cary and the western Wake County area; some competitions extend to venues throughout the state. The 2006 season marks the 20th anniversary of the games.Some 26 sports are included -- from basketball to BMX to bowling.Last year nearly 14,000 athletes ranging in age from 3 to 82 competed statewide.The 2006 competitions culminate with a special 20th-anniversary celebration on Friday, June 23, at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre at Regency Park.For information on the State Games, which are held by North Carolina Amateur Sports, visit www.ncsports.org.JUNE 2
