Athens Drive's Keisha Gatling and Green Hope's Kristen Gaffney are each in the state record books. Gatling broke the record for field goal percentage with 74.1 percent this year and Gaffney has the second-most points for a sophomore season with 806. She needs 13 to break the record this Saturday.

Last year was an off year for western Wake baseball. Only Apex, which finished third in the conference, made it to the third round of the NCHSAA playoffs. None made it to regionals. But most of the teams that did find success last year are returning most of last year's contributors.
