    The Bulldogs girls basketball team gained inside position in the Greater Neuse River 4A Conference regular season race Friday night with a 49-41 win over the Warriors.


    Corinth Holders wraps up title, unbeaten dual run

    Seven of Corinth Holders’ nine seniors picked up victories for the Pirates, who capped a 14-0 season with a 52-24 victory over visiting Cleveland on Wednesday – claiming the Two Rivers 3A Conference championship with a 5-0 league record.

    Neuse Charter grabbed two Carolina 1A Conference basketball wins over Princeton Tuesday night. The Cougar boys squad took a 66-54 victory behind 26 points from Jimmie Sanders III. DeVante Stevens added 16 for NCS, which improved to 4-5 in conference play and 11-10 overall.


    Corinth Holders’ Aaron Lopez leads annual All-County soccer honorees

    Corinth Holders senior Aaron Lopez leads the 2014-15 Johnston United Soccer Association’s all-Johnston County boys soccer team. Lopez was named Mr. Soccer for 2014-15 and will receive a college scholarship from the Johnston United Soccer Association.


    Championship chases begin this week

    It’s championship season starting this week in high school athletics. The dual team wrestling playoffs will start Tuesday and wrap up by Saturday evening, while the quest for state swimming championships begins with regionals on Friday and Saturday.

    Garner holds off East Wake in overtime

    Garner, which had won the prior meeting with a formidable 75-52 win on Dec. 12, remained unbeaten in the Greater Neuse River 4A Conference (8-0) with a 74-66 overtime victory over East Wake Friday night.


    Top girls basketball teams test each other

    The top four teams in The News & Observer high school girls basketball rankings have taken turns beating one another. Four of the five games they have played among themselves have been decided by two or less points. The coaches say the competition makes them better.


    Pirates at home in the water

    For the second year in a row, the Corinth Holders swim team swept both the boys and girls Two Rivers 3A Conference Championships at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatic Center.
